Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has been shortlisted as a finalist in five categories in the 2019 SDC awards. The awards recognize Schneider Electric’s strengths in product innovation, managed services and channel support in key areas that include Edge Computing, Next-Generation Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
The categories in which Schneider Electric has been shortlisted are:
Edge Project of the Year and Hybrid Infrastructure Project of the Year
Both these awards are for the deployment of edge computing solutions which support a highly critical data centre and distributed IT environment at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Delivered in collaboration with EfficiencyIT, a Value Added Reseller (VAR) and APC by Schneider Electric Elite Partner, the facility supports the Institute in its role as a leader in genomic research, who require massive local computing power to analyze sequenced DNA data in pursuit of cures for Cancer, Malaria, Ebola and other pathogens.
Furthermore, each of the 30+ sequencers, deployed in distributed scientific research labs around the campus, produce terabytes of data per day and have to be protected by individual Smart-UPS™ Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), which minimize downtime, replacement of expensive chemicals and ensure the highly valuable genomic information is not lost. The management, operational and energy efficiency are significantly improved through the deployment of Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT™, which monitors the entire edge environment and enables the team at Sanger to save cost, ensuring more funding is available for research that improves the outcome of human illness.
AI/Machine Learning Innovation of the Year and Orchestration/Automation Innovation of the Year
EcoStruxure IT’s nomination in both the ‘AI/Machine Learning Innovation’ and ‘Orchestration /Automation Innovation of the Year’ categories reflect its focus on the growing presence of AI, ML and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in the infrastructure space.
Using the power of its AI, ML and intelligent benchmarking capabilities, the solution analyses data and produces insights that help to automate, streamline and improve the management of critical IT and edge computing environments. Its vendor-neutral capabilities enable users to monitor and manage products from many different manufacturers via a single platform, delivering updates to service personnel on a range of smart devices via the EcoStruxure IT Expert™ application.
Managed Services Provider Innovation of the Year
EcoStruxure IT has also been shortlisted for ‘Managed Services Provider Innovation of the Year’ for its strength as the industry’s only vendor-neutral, next-generation DCIM platform.
The solution delivers critical insights to End-Users, VAR’s and managed Service Providers (MSP’s) at any time, anywhere and on any device. It also allows Channel Partners to increase revenue and profitability via digital services, delivering proactive and predictive maintenance that boosts uptime and resilience for customer IT systems.
IT Systems Reseller/ Managed Services Provider of the Year
The final shortlisting is for Schneider Electric’s UK Elite Partner EfficiencyIT who has been nominated for their excellence as a service provider and expertise in the field of both edge computing and data centres. Among the projects on which EiT has worked is the deployment of high-performance computing infrastructure at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, which provides critical support for the genomic research effort to improve health for all of humankind.
